General Information

Attendees

Attendance is open to government employees of law enforcement and corrections agencies. All other individuals/agencies will need to get approval from the program director and instructors. The Center for Criminal Justice (CJ Center) reserves the right to restrict or deny enrollment or access to any individual.

Cancellation Policy

Each course has a budget that determines the tuition-based upon a certain number of attendees.  Cancellations that are made on short notice leave us unable to fill seats from our waiting list. This impacts our operating budget, as we still have to pay for the instructors, meeting room, printed materials, etc.

Therefore, it is necessary to enforce the following cancellation policy per person registered in the course:

  • Cancellation less than 21 days prior to class: $50.00
  • Cancellation less than 14 days prior to class: 1/2 tuition
  • No show on the first day of class: full tuition amount

**Cancellation of a non-tuition course may be subject to an administrative fee**

  • Cancellations must be received in writing via email. You can submit your cancellations to the center at chhs-ccj@csulb.edu.
  • The CJ Center reserves the right to cancel classes due to a lack of funding, enrollment, or any unforeseen circumstances.
  • Agencies with unpaid tuition fees may be denied registration to future courses.

Hotel Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Are state rates/federal rates the same as the group rate?

State rates, federal rates, and our group rates are not the same.  While they may be the same amount these rates all have different concessions and requirements.  Our goal is for the group rate to be cheaper than the state rate.  Generally speaking, the group rate includes discounted parking and complimentary Wi-Fi.  Those concessions plus the group rate will usually be cheaper than the state rate or any other discounted rate.  If you find a cheaper rate please let us know so we can address this with the hotel.

What are my payment options for my hotel stay?

Reservations are made by reserving a room with a credit card.  You may choose to use a personal credit card or a department credit card.  The card that you make your reservation with is only to guarantee your room, you cannot use it as a form of payment unless you are authorized to do so.  If your department chooses to use their credit card for your room than they must submit a credit card authorization form please confirm with the hotel prior to your stay what options are available for payment.  Not all hotels will accept third party credit cards or checks.

Can I use a department credit card to pay for my sleeping room?

Most hotels will honor a department credit card (not in the attendee鈥檚 name).  Please reach out to each hotel before check in to confirm their policy and process.  It is likely that the hotel will require that you complete a credit card authorization form prior to checking into the hotel.  Additionally, the individual will be required to swipe their personal card for incidentals like room service, etc.

What is the best way to make reservations?

The best way to make a reservation is to use the rooming links provided.  That ensures you receive the group rate for this class.  Not all government rates are the same as the group rate.  We negotiate specific concessions for our group that you will miss out on if you book outside the block of rooms.  If you find that you booked the wrong rate please contact the hotel to request that they correct the rate before you leave for class.  They may not adjust the rate after you have left your session.

What is the cutoff date for reservations?

The cutoff date for reservations is 2 weeks prior to the start of the class.

What do I do if the hotel says that there are no more rooms available in our block of rooms?

Make a reservation at a refundable rate (if you can) and then contact our office at (562) 985-4940 to advise that you could not get the group rate.  We will contact the hotel and request that the rate be changed to the group rate.  Generally speaking, if the cutoff date has passed it will be more difficult to get the hotel to adjust the rate.

Do I have to stay the night before class starts?

No you do not.  However, you will need to make sure that you arrive on time for class on the first day.  If you are flying in for class it is recommended that you arrive the night before class starts in case of any flight delays.

What do I do if I need a late check in?

Standard check in time is usually in the afternoon.  If you will not be arriving until later in the evening, contact the hotel and request a late check in.  If you arrive after midnight they will release your room and consider you a 鈥渘o show鈥 unless you call for a late check in.

What happens if I arrive at the hotel and they don鈥檛 have a room for me?

Even if you have a reservation with a confirmation number it does not guarantee that the hotel will have a room for you when you arrive.  The hotel will often over book their rooms on busy nights to account for an estimated 10% cancellation rate. This means room availability is on a first come first serve basis, even when you have a confirmation number. If you arrive and they don鈥檛 have a room for you they will move you to a different hotel, usually at their expense.  If you are going to be arriving late you can call the hotel and ask for a late check in.

Best piece of advice for making hotel reservations:  Book early, check in early, and you shouldn鈥檛 have a problem.
