Beach EDGE - Communication Studies, B.A. + M.A.
Students in the Beach EDGE Communication Studies program will complete the requirements for both the B.A. and M.A. in Communication Studies. Beach EDGE students in Communication Studies may double-count 9-M.A. electives towards both their B.A. and M.A. degrees.

After the first four years (3 semesters of Beach EDGE Program participation), students will have accumulated 120 units toward their BA. Nine of those units will be MA-Level courses that will count both toward their BA requirements of 120 units and the major required units.
A minimum of thirty hours of graduate work in Communication Studies distributed as follows:
- COMM 541 and 546 (6 units) preferably completed in the first semester of graduate study and prior to advancement to candidacy.
- COMM 640 and 646 (6 units) preferably completed in the second semester of graduate study and prior to advancement to candidacy.
- 18 units of graduate level electives or 15 units of electives plus 3 thesis units
Eligibility & Admissions
- Are a matriculated undergraduate student at 黑料网
- Completed 60 units
- Are in Junior standing or higher
- Met their major specific requirements
- Completed or have the following courses in progress COMM 300, 301, 306, and 307 at 黑料网
- Has a 黑料网 Communication GPA of 3.5 (excluding Forensic Activity; Internship; and Special Studies)
- Has an overall 黑料网 GPA of 3.0
- Earned 鈥楤鈥 or better in 3 out of the 4 undergraduate core courses: 300, 301,306, and 307 with at least one of those grades being an A and none of those grades being a C
- A student can apply based on an anticipated grade, but in that case, admissions decisions will be delayed until the semester is over, and the final grades can be verified.
- A Statement of Purpose
- Two recommendations from 黑料网 Communication Studies faculty, with at least one of those recommendations from the following core COMM classes: 300, 301, 306, 307

Students can choose three graduate-level electives (excluding Administering the Forensics Program and Directed Research) to double-count for B.A. and M.A. These electives must be completed in residence at 黑料网. Transfer courses cannot double-count.
Graduate core classes (COMM 541, COMM 546, COMM 641, COMM 646) cannot count for B.A. requirements. These courses also cannot be taken unless in graduate status.
