Real Students, Real Impact Quotes
"The professional network that I’ve built through Black Scholars has helped me gain meaningful opportunities to connect with Black professionals in the Long Beach community, who have generously given me priceless advice on my healthcare pathways and contributed to my overall success as a first-generation student pursuing medicine. Without the Black Scholars Program, I would not have such a tightknit support system of people in my field who look like me, and that’s why I will continue to give back to the program year after year, even after I graduate."
- Z'nya Spears
"The Black Scholars Scholarship has made going to and graduating from university accessible to me. From my circumstances, going to college was a financially tough decision and the support from the Black Scholars community was very helpful. The difference it made for me makes me want to reach back after graduation and do the same for more students like me.”
- Vincent Thornton
"The Black Scholars program has made me see what networking looks like. I have gained more confidence and courage working for the Black Scholars program as I’ve been able to reach out to those who I wish to highlight in the newsletter.”
