ADVISING & REGISTRATION OVERVIEW
Your Advising & Registration Process is coordinated by your designated advising center or department faculty advisor and communicated via a series of emails sent to your and personal email accounts – be sure to check both on a regular basis.
Make your SOAR reservation via starting on Tuesday, October 28. The deadline to make a reservation is Thursday, December 4 or by the deadline determined by ºÚÁÏÍø Admissions.

Advising & Registration Process 
Your reservation consists of two separate dates – one for your Registration date and the other for your Orientation Workshop date. When making your reservation, you'll see these dates are automatically linked.

Please review these communications for details regarding how and when you'll receive academic advising and a list of recommended courses, as well as next-step directions on how and when you'll enroll in your first-semester courses.
Next, you will attend an on-campus or virtual Orientation Workshop where you'll learn more about campus life and resources to support your transition to life at Long Beach State.

Majors include newly admitted First-Time/First-Year students (freshmen) who are Undeclared, exploring multiple majors, or working toward eligibility for their intended pre-major.
Change of major request are not allowed for Spring 2026 admissions. Please check this page in late May 2026 for Fall 2026 admissions information on change of major process and deadlines.
Transfer students CANNOT change majors without jeopardizing your admission status. Contact ºÚÁÏÍø Admissions for additional information –&²Ô²ú²õ±è;call 562.985.5471, stop by the Beach Central Intake Window located on the first floor of Brotman Hall, or visit the Contact Admissions website to learn how to submit a help ticket/schedule an appointment.
Are you a NCAA Student Athlete? Contact your Bickerstaff Academic Center (BAC) advisor for guidance on changing your major.
First-Time/First-Year students (freshmen) will receive communications from their designated advising center indicating whether math and/or chemistry placement are required –&²Ô²ú²õ±è;messages will be sent to your accounts.
Visit Math Placement to see your major-based required Math course(s). The Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces (ALEKS) Mathematics Placement Program is required for majors needing Pre-Calculus and/or Calculus. Majors that require this level of math include all science concentrations, Engineering, Mathematics, Environmental Science & Policy, Economics, all business concentrations, and undeclared/undecided. Your assigned advising center will notify you by email if you are required to complete ALEKS Math – check your personal and accounts for this notification.
The (CHEM ALEKS) assessment and prep course is designed to assess and map your preparation in key chemistry concepts and provide modules to review and refresh knowledge. Check your personal and accounts for notification if you are required to complete the Chemistry Placement course.
