Aztec Dance with Jorge Reyes

Aztec dance presentation by Jorge Reyes. Jorge is a traditional Aztec dancer who will share the culture and philosophy of the dances and also share steps to activate kinesthetic learning. 

Reyes is currently an Academic Advisor with the College of Health and Human Services at ºÚÁÏÍø and has worked on campus for over 15 years as staff and attended as a Chicano and Latino Studies major years before that. As a student, he was involved with The American Indian Student Council, La Raza Student Association and ASI. Reyes has been a danzante for over 20 years and belongs to Danza Iztacuauhtli from Guadalajara, Jalisco. He has also sang for over 20 years and was a member of the Red House Drum from Long Beach, CA. and is currently a member of the ºÚÁÏÍø Community Drum. He and his family continue to travel to ceremonies and presentations throughout the year, sharing culture and traditions.

This presentation is part of the ARTES Series. ARTES stands for Art, Resistance, Teatro, Expression, and Song and is a new program at Cal State Long Beach created by CHLS Assistant Professor Felicia Montes.

ARTES Spring 2025 Series highlights professional Chicanx Latinx artists, dancers, and musicians. Each presentation in the series features guest performers who will share information about their artform and their journey and have participatory activities.
