Permit Information & Regulations

ºÚÁÏÍø uses License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology which connects your license plate to your permit virtually and is our environmentally friendly alternative to hangtags and stickers.  Please refer to the below drop-down menus to learn more about permits available this year, their effective dates, pricing, and the parking location parameters associated with each permit.

Important Regulations

  • Paid parking is required at all times.
  • Parking is enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays
  • Permits are non-transferable. Parking privileges may be revoked for individuals found sharing or falsifying a permit.
  • Each permit has its own parking privileges; please see below for more information on valid permit locations. 

How to buy a permit 

We have different options to purchase permits depending on your length of stay. Daily and Short-Term parking can be purchased via ParkMobile App/Website or from a nearby parking pay station. For other permits, see below for more information.

Parking Permit Fee Schedule (2025-26)

  • Student permits are valid in any General (G) Lot including the three (3) campus parking structures unless the space is otherwise restricted with posted signage. Student permits are also valid in Employee (E) Lots after 5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, and all day on weekends.
  • Student permits are also valid in Employee (E) Lots after 5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, and all day on weekends.
  • Student permits may have one vehicle associated to the permit at any given time.
  • Student permits can be purchased online or at the Cashiers Office located on the first floor of Brotman Hall. Payments can be made with cash, check, or debit card, online with e-check (no fee), or credit card (convenience fee applies).

Students who are sponsored by various internal/external departments need to submit an application through that specific department prior to receiving their parking permit.

Examples of these departments include:

Student Financial Services then processes the request for a permit and sends an email confirmation. Vehicles parked on campus prior to receiving permit confirmation may risk receiving a citation.

  • Employee permits are valid in any Employee (E) Lot or General (G) Lot as well as all three (3) campus parking structures unless the space is otherwise restricted with posted signage.
  • Employee permits are also valid in Short-Term parking spaces after 5:30 p.m. on Friday through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday night.
  • Employee parking can be purchased online or at the Cashiers Office located on the first floor of Brotman Hall. Payments can be made with cash, check, or debit card, online with e-check (no fee), or credit card (convenience fee applies).
  • A monthly, pretax payroll deduction is also available online. Monthly employee parking is valid from the first day to the last day of the month.

Concurrent Employment

  • Employees who are employed at two or more CSU campuses are only required to purchase a single parking permit.

Employee Carpool Program

BeachGO is a free mobile app exclusive to ºÚÁÏÍø that can help match you to other employees who would like to carpool to campus based on location, date, time of day, and other criteria that you select in the app. Additional information is available on our Carpool webpage.

We highly encourage carpooling to campus whenever possible. Not only do carpool members share the cost of gas, but they can also avoid traffic by utilizing the HOV lanes on nearby freeways leading to campus. 

  • Residential Parking (R Lots) is for individuals living in campus Residence Halls and who have purchased the Residential permit.
  • Residential permits may have one vehicle associated with the permit at any given time.   

Student Residents (On-Campus Resident permit)

  • Valid in Resident (R) Lots and General (G) Lots (excluding G10) all day, 7 days a week, unless the space is otherwise restricted with posted signage.
  • Overnight parking is available in Resident (R) Lots or General (G) Lots (excluding G10). Overnight parking in any campus parking structure is strictly prohibited.
  • On-campus Resident permits are also valid in Employee (E) Lots after 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, and all day on weekends unless the space is otherwise restricted with posted signage.
  • Resident permits are not valid in Lot G10 at any time. 

Student Residents at Beachside (Beachside Resident permit)

  • Valid in the Beachside Lot at all times.
  • Beachside Resident permits are valid in General (G) Lots (excluding G10) on campus after 5:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and all day Friday-Sunday unless the space is otherwise restricted with posted signage. Beachside Resident permits are also valid in Employee (E) Lots after 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, and all day on weekends unless the space is otherwise restricted with posted signage.
  • Resident permits are not valid in Lot G10 at any time.
  • Overnight parking is available only in the Beachside lot located at

Employee Residents

Employee Residents may park in any employee or general parking space on campus. Parking in designated resident spaces is prohibited.

  • Daily and Short-Term parking can be purchased via the  or from the parking pay stations identified by signage. Download the ParkMobile App for or  platforms.
  • All pay stations are cashless, they accept credit cards and debit cards.
  • If paying cash, please visit the Visitor Information Center (VIC) or Parking and Transportation Services Office.
  • Please note that all pay stations on campus are paperless. If you require a receipt, please email us at ParkingGeneral@csulb.edu with your request and a receipt will be provided for you.

Daily Parking

  • Daily permits are valid in any General (G) Lot as well as all three (3) campus parking structures unless the space is otherwise restricted with posted signage (ADA, State Vehicle, Loading/Unloading, etc.).
  • Once you purchase a Daily Permit, you may move your vehicle to any location on campus where Daily Permits are valid. You do not have to remain only in the lot where your permit was purchased.
  • Daily permits expire on campus at 11:59 p.m. on the date of purchase.
  • Daily permits are also valid in Employee (E) Lots after 5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, and all day on weekends.

Evening/Weekend

  • Evening/Weekend permits are available after 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends for $10.
  • Evening/Weekend permits may be purchased at campus  or on the ParkMobile App.

Short-Term Parking

  • Short-Term permits are required to park in Short Term Spaces.
  • Other Permit Types are not valid in Short-Term Spaces.
  • is available in 30-, 60-, or 90-minute increments and can be purchased at the pay stations located within the parking lots where Short-Term spaces are located. These lots include G1, G4, G10, S1, E1, E5, the Beachside parking lot, the South Turnaround, and street parking spaces on State University Drive.
  • Short-Term spaces are Green painted curbs.
  • Short-Term permits are valid only within the lot in which they are purchased. You cannot move to another short-term parking location with this permit.

For Students

Students with a DMV-issued placard or distinguishing license plate and a valid parking permit, may park in ADA spaces in General Lots, ADA spaces in Employee Lots, and any Short-Term parking space. Students who have a valid parking permit do not have to purchase an additional short-term parking permit when parking in  (green spaces) provided on campus.

Please note, students with an ADA placard are not allowed to park in the regular Employee spaces unless it is after 5:30 p.m., Mon.-Fri. or all day on the weekends.

Parking permits (monthly, semester, academic year) are available for purchase online from the . Daily permits are available for purchase from a pay station or via the . Students requesting specific parking accommodations should contact the Bob Murphy Access Center at 562.985.5401 or BMAC@csulb.edu.

For Employees 

All faculty and staff using a DMV-issued placard or distinguishing license plate must also purchase a valid parking permit (employee or daily) when using the Accessible/ADA spaces on campus. Parking permits are available online via the , at the pay stations, or via the . 

For Visitors

One-time visitors requiring accessible parking may contact Parking and Transportation Services or visit the Visitor Information Center (VIC) for accessible parking locations and information.

Bob Murphy Access Center (BMAC) Permit for students

The BMAC permit is valid in all lots designated as Employee (E) or General (G) parking including all three campus parking structures unless the space is otherwise restricted with posted signage. To obtain a BMAC permit, please contact the  at 562.985.5401 or BMAC@csulb.edu.

  • Motorcycle permits are valid in designated only.
  • Exception: Electric motorcycles may park in EV charging spaces. Visit EV regulations to learn more about parking regulations related to EV charging spaces.
  • Motorcycle Permits must be purchased directly from the Cashiers Office, located on the 1st floor of Brotman Hall. Motorcycle permits are not available for purchase online.

IMPORTANT NOTE: A Complimentary Motorcycle Permit is available upon request to anyone who has purchased a student or employee semester/academic year vehicle permit. These permits are provided at no additional fee (does not apply to Resident Permits). Please visit the Cashiers Office on the 1st floor of Brotman Hall to request a Complimentary Motorcycle Permit.

Emeriti permits are available for processing online through the .

Emeriti permits are valid in all lots including Employee (E) Lots and General (G) Lots, unless the space is otherwise restricted with posted signage.

To obtain Volunteer Parking, departments will fill out the to register their volunteers in the Parking System.

Authorized volunteers will access a Volunteer Parking Permit through the .

Volunteer Parking Permits expire at the end of each Fiscal Year on June 30. 

Activity (Club Sport), LifeFit, Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) permits are available for purchase. Contact your program coordinator for assistance with requesting an account to purchase a permit.  Parking regulations for these permits are based on the permit type specified below:

Activity

Valid in General (G) Lots after 4 p.m. on weekdays (Mon.-Fri.) and all day on weekends (Sat.-Sun.). Activity permits are also valid in Employee (E) Lots after 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends. 

Community

Valid in all lots designated as General (G) Parking and the three campus parking structures. This permit is also valid in any Employee (E) Lot after 5:30 p.m., and all day on the weekends.

LifeFit

Valid in E4 Permit spaces in the southern section of . This permit is also valid in lots designated as General parking (G Lots) and all campus parking structures unless the space is otherwise restricted with posted signage.

Parking for campus events may be purchased via the ParkMobile app or the (up to 30 days prior to the event). Zone numbers are available on the app, the website or on signage posted in each lot.

Parking may also be purchased from a nearby parking pay station. A Daily parking permit is valid in any General (G) Lot as well as all three (3) campus parking structures unless the space is otherwise restricted with posted signage. Daily permits are also valid in Employee (E) Lot parking spaces after 5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, and all day Saturday-Sunday.

Annual, academic year, and semester permits are already valid during campus events. No additional parking purchase is necessary for a campus event if you already have a valid student or employee permit.

Non-resident permits are required to depart the campus by 11:59 p.m. unless a special accommodation has been requested (see below). This includes Daily, Monthly, Semester, Academic Year and Employee permits. Student Resident permits designed for those living in campus residence halls are the only type of permit allowed to park on our campus overnight.

Housing Guests

All guests must purchase some form of paid parking to avoid citation. A Daily parking permit is valid in any General (G) Lot as well as all three (3) campus parking structures unless the space is otherwise restricted with posted signage. Daily permits are also valid in Employee (E) Lot parking spaces after 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and all day during the weekends.  Daily permits are not valid in Residential (R) or Beachside Lots. 

 Overnight parking for guests of on-campus residents is available for purchase and parking in Lot G2 only. Overnight parking is valid 24 hours from the time of purchase. Overnight parking for the guests of Beachside residents is available for purchase at the Beachside Lot and valid in the Short-Term parking spaces only. Overnight parking is available for purchase beginning at 5:30 p.m. and valid through 9:30 a.m. the following morning. 

Other overnight parking requests

Overnight guest parking is allowed in only. Overnight parking can be purchased from the pay station in 24-, 48- and 72-hour increments. The time of purchase will mark the beginning of the 24-hour period.

Students who have a valid permit Semester, Monthly, or Academic Year do not need to pay for overnight parking but must request approval by sending an email to OvernightParkingRequests@csulb.edu. The request must be submitted 24 hours in advance. Please include the following information in your request:

  1. Name
  2. Date/time requested
  3. Make/model of vehicle
  4. License plate number
  5. Reason overnight parking is required (campus-related business, sporting event, field trip, etc.)

A confirmation response will be provided once your request has been reviewed.

Permits may be refunded based on the current value remaining on the permit at the time of return. Specific guidelines are provided below.

Student Permits

Fall, spring, summer or academic year permits may be refunded based on the current value remaining on the permit at the time of return. Refund applications are accepted by the Cashiers Office via the following . Refunds are subject to a one-time, $10 processing fee.

Employee Permits

Annual, fall, summer and spring parking permits are prorated monthly, and based on the value remaining on the permit. No refunds are given for partial months. Employee parking depreciates at a rate proportional to the monthly rate of the permit.

Refund requests will be accepted up to the date of full depreciation. Refund requests may be sent to ParkingGeneral@csulb.edu.

Daily & Short-Term Permits
