Christine Kleinpeter

Christine B. Kleinpeter, Psy.D., LCSW, is a professor in the School of Social Work at California State University, Long Beach, where she has taught since 1994. A scholar鈥損ractitioner, she focuses on graduate social work education, evidence-based practice, and the integration of classroom learning with field experience. Her teaching portfolio includes human behavior, advanced practice, and psychopathology; she has led significant curriculum development and served on research, practice, distance education, and strategic planning as well as retention, tenure, and promotion committees.

Dr. Kleinpeter鈥檚 research examines distance education in social work, motivational interviewing and practice with involuntary clients, problem-solving courts and recovery services, and college student mental health鈥攎ost recently teletherapy, therapeutic alliance, and equity in campus health settings. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in outlets such as Journal of Social Work Education, Journal of Technology in Human Services, Journal of Offender Rehabilitation, Journal of Dual Diagnosis, and the International Journal of Health, Wellness, and Society, including a 2024 study on satisfaction and therapeutic alliance in teletherapy for college students. Her work has been supported by grants from CSU Long Beach and the Orange County Superior Court, where she served as co-investigator on drug court evaluations. She received 黑料网鈥檚 President鈥檚 Award for Outstanding Faculty Achievement in 2018.

A licensed Psychologist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Dr. Kleinpeter has over three decades of clinical experience, including service as a clinical psychologist at Golden West College鈥檚 Student Health Center and membership on its Behavioral Assessment Team. She is trained in EMDR (Levels I鈥揑I), Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, and is a MINT-trained Motivational Interviewing trainer with extensive experience educating practitioners and public agencies; she is also a DSM-5 trainer. Dr. Kleinpeter earned her Psy.D. from Pepperdine University, M.S.W. from the University of Southern California, and B.A. (magna cum laude) from the University of California, Irvine, with additional study at the University of Cambridge, England.
