Dear College of Business Students, 

Welcome to the first day of classes at California State University, Long Beach! 

Whether you are returning to campus or joining us for the first time, I am delighted to welcome you to the College of Business (COB). Today marks the beginning of a new academic year filled with opportunities to learn, build relationships, explore new ideas, and prepare for your future. You belong here, and our faculty and staff are committed to helping you thrive. 

We want you to succeed, so if you begin to struggle in your courses, get help immediately. Your first point of contact should be your professor, followed by the Chair of the Department where the course is offered (Accountancy, Finance, Information Systems, International Business, Legal Studies, Management [which includes Human Resource Management and Supply Chain Management], Marketing). You may also want to consider tutoring that is provided through the COB Center for Student Success. 

You are also strongly encouraged to get to know your advisor in the COB Center for Student Success. That person is invaluable as you make progress towards your degree.  

If you need an accommodation for a class, you should contact the Bob Murphy Access Center. 

If you find yourself struggling with life's challenges, please consider contacting the Crisis Assistance and Resource Education Support team. 

Please know that you are attending a world class college of business. While there are multiple indicators of the quality of your COB education, one of the strongest indicators is AACSB accreditation. AACSB is the gold standard for a business education, with only 6% of universities worldwide offering business degrees holding this accreditation. 

Finally, I strongly encourage you to take advantage of the myriad of opportunities available for you to learn outside of the classroom. This is why I encourage you to get involved with student organizations and campus activities such as attending sporting and performing arts events. Consider getting an internship and being involved with mentoring opportunities provided by the COB Student Center for Professional Development.
