Internships
- February 2026: are available. These include many focus on areas such as: Large Language Model development, AI for drug discovery, Data science, Applied Math and Biostatistics. Some positions are open to both undergraduate and graduate students, while others may be targeted to one group. Note: our own ºÚÁÏÍø Mathematics and Statistics Department alumni Andrew Le participated in this.
- January 2026: The P at Harvard University is accepting applications. Selected students will join a multidisciplinary effort to help enable the collection, analysis and sharing of personal data for research in social science and other fields while providing privacy for individual subjects. Apply by February 1, 2026.
- December 2025: The offers multiple opportunities throughout the year to align with the needs and schedules of individual sponsoring offices. Each opportunity will include specific details regarding eligibility requirements, deadlines, and participating offices. Consider applying to multiple opportunities!
- April 2025: The is excited to announce the opening of the application window for the 2025 Fall Internship Cohort! Interns receive hands-on experience working with the largest public health organization in the state. Students studying public health, data and informatics, information technologies, communications, health education, and other supporting fields are encouraged to apply. Apply by May 2, 2025.

Scholarships
- January 2026: The , an ETS sponsored award designed to support graduate students from underrepresented groups pursuing advanced study in mathematics education or STEM disciplines. Award amount is $20,000.
- February 2025: The supports Hispanic/Latinx students in careers in the mathematical sciences; including, but not limited to, scientific research, math ed, engineering, and finance. They award 2-3 scholarships of up to $500 to prospective and current undergrads/grads. The deadline is February 28.
Summer Opportunities
- February 2026: is excited to announce that we are currently accepting applications for SHARP, a new summer research program designed to help first-year math students co-author original research papers for submission to top mathematics journals such as UMAP and JRME. ºÚÁÏÍø students who have completed an introductory calculus course such as MATH 122 or higher are encouraged to apply. Students who performed well in their Fall semester STEM courses are also eligible. Submission window closes April 19, 2026.
- February 2026: The is a four-week, residential session designed to prepare a cohort of women and gender nonconforming individuals to thrive in their Ph.D. programs in the mathematical sciences. The 2026 EDGE Summer Program will be held May 31-June 27 at the University of Waterloo in Canada. Deadline to apply: February 20, 2026 (extended).

- December 2025: The is now accepting applications. The program provides paid summer research opportunities for majors in any field of science or engineering, including physics, astronomy & astrophysics, planetary science, astrobiology, mathematics, computer science and computer engineering and related fields at world-class research institutions. Applications are open and the deadline for applications is February 2nd, 2026.
- November 2025: Check out the National Science Foundation (NSF) ! You will work in an NSF COLDEX research lab with researchers working on topics in Antarctic ice core chemical analysis, oldest ice exploration, ice flow modeling, engineering, science communication, or geoscience education. Note: the NSF COLDEX REU does not include field work in Antarctica. Application window is December 1, 2025, through Feburary 1, 2026.
- May 2025: - Getting ready for a career in quantum? Participate in the virtual Quantum Program! Join participants in an intensive crash course on Quantum Computing. June 2 - July 30, 2025. Virtual and open to all. 3 hours per week. The program, now in its third year, has already trained over 8,000 participants.
- April 2025: Marist University was recently awarded a three-year REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) grant, and is currently recruiting students for their summer program (June 9 to August 1, 2025). Apply by May 11. See for application and more information.

- February 2025: is an NSF and NSA-sponsored summer research and professional development program at North Carolina State. You must be an undergrad and a US citizen or permanent resident. You'll work on real-life problems using math and/or stats, build your computing and communication skills, and learn about STEM career opportunities. It pays $7,000 plus housing, travel, and conference funding. It runs ten weeks, May 27-July 30. Apply by February 15.
Conferences
- February 2026: CSU San Bernardino will host , the first national conference dedicated to accelerated workforce development in emerging technology sectors, on April 15-16, 2026. This event will bring together industry leaders, government partners, faculty, and students to explore how we can better align education, research, and workforce needs to ensure long-term opportunities and innovation. The conference will feature speakers from major national and international companies in AI, quantum, robotics, biotechnology, smart cities and other emerging fields. Free event.
- January 2026: The (Symposium for Broadening Participation in Mathematics in Southern California) to be held at Loyola Marymount University on February 21, 2026. The symposium will provide a space for emergent and experienced mathematicians, mathematics educators, and industry professionals in the Southern California area to get to know each other on a personal as well as professional level.
- January 2026: LA Hacks 2026, Southern California’s largest hackathon, is happening from April 24-26, 2026, at UCLA's iconic Pauley Pavilion. Compete for $30,000+ in prizes, enjoy free meals, and gain hands-on experience with top sponsors like Amazon, Fetch, and Roblox. Apply at before February 20, 2026.
- August 2025: The conference is September 26-27, 2025 at Columbia University. The GROW conference is intended to provide support and encouragement to undergraduate students considering going to graduate school in the mathematical sciences and to help build a profession in which gender and sex are not barriers to participation. The conference runs annually, and is open to all undergraduates from U.S. colleges and universities, including international students. Apply by August 22. Questions: ic2354@columbia.edu.
- June 2025: The is a virtual program for advanced undergraduate students and junior graduate students that will cover various algorithms in number theory and algebraic geometry, and can provide a good window into advanced math for students with some interest in coding and vice versa. This type of course is often not offered at the undergraduate level, so it is a special opportunity. Program runs September 22 - November 21, 2025. Apply by July 15. - April 2025: The 14th Annual Southern California Systems Biology Symposium () will be held at UC Riverside on May 10, 2025. This event will provide an opportunity for research groups from academic campuses and hospitals across Southern California to present their latest findings and promote collaborations in all areas of Systems and Computational Biology involving data-driven computational and machine learning modeling. Register by April 30.
- March 2025: The deadline to submit an abstract for a poster presentation at the has been extended to March 31. Students are encouraged to present a poster! The deadline for giving a talk has passed, but to make a submission for the poster session please email hpb@ams.org with the following information: authors' names, email addresses, and affiliations; specific MSC code ("General" will be used as default), title, and abstract.
- March 2025: The MAA SoCal-Nev Spring 2025 Section Meeting will be at Pepperdine University on Saturday, March 29. They are still working on the website, but you can submit an abstract for the student poster session by March 17. All levels of students are accepted, and two presenters for each poster will get free registration and lunch.
- March 2025: The for grad students is 12-13 April at UC Riverside. It will feature talks around surfaces in geometry, topology, and dynamics; and lightning talks by participants; a panel on navigating challenges in academia; and small group meetings in advance to support these activities. Apply by March 1.

- February 2026: The Green Generation Showcase has put out a call for projects for ºÚÁÏÍø's Earth Month Celebration. They are Individual or team sustainability and/or climate justice-focused research posters, artwork, prototypes, interactive displays, videos, and more. Showcase is on Thursday, April 23, 2026. Deadline to submit project abstract and description is March 29.

- October 2025: ºÚÁÏÍø METRIC presents the webinar on October 29, 2025 at 4:00pm. Topics include: AI, privacy, and governance in practice; transferable skills from STEM studies to policy and tech roles; career pathways and experiences in AI governance; and current impacts of AI on science and society. - September 2025: The student-led club Mathematical Ongoing Discussions (MOD) first general body meeting is Tuesday, September 16 from 5:00pm-7:00pm in LA5-150.
- August 2025: MATH 491 is a 1-unit problem-solving seminar designed to nurture mathematical creativity. Problems come from all areas of math and are extremely challenging but rarely resemble traditional class assignments; instead, they reward ingenuity, combining disparate areas, and applying ideas in unexpected ways. If so, sign up for PHYS 491B - "Pedagogical Content Knowledge in Physics - Energy & Momentum" for the Fall 2025 semester at ºÚÁÏÍø! PHYS 491B meets Thursdays 5:00pm-7:45pm in HSCI-280. - January 2026: The University of Michigan (U-M) Department of Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE), the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISyE) at Georgia Tech and the Management Science & Engineering Department at Stanford (MS&E) are organizing our second joint . This one-day event is designed to bring together promising early-career researchers/doctoral students to learn more about all three departments, connect with faculty and potential mentors and participate in professional development and informational sessions. - December 2025: The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Auburn University offers a broad range of graduate degrees, from the Ph.D. in Mathematics and Ph.D. in Statistics (launching 2026) to master's programs in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, and Statistics. - October 2025: The Department of Statistics at the University of Washington is pleased to announce the , an initiative by the graduate students from the Department of Statistics and the Department of Biostatistics to support prospective Ph.D. applicants, and especially those from historically marginalized groups. Between now and November 9, 2025, applicants can submit their CVs, Statements of Purpose, and Personal Statements to PARS to receive mentoring on strengthening their application materials in advance of applying for any statistics or biostatistics Ph.D. programs. - October 2025: Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE CSGF) is hosting an informational application webinar at 1:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. This 90-minute-max Zoom session will provide an overview of the program and guidance for applying, and it will serve as a forum to ask related questions in a live Q&A format.
- October 2025: The Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Computational Science is a joint program between San Diego State University (SDSU) and University California Irvine (UCI) aimed at training scientists and engineers who will create advanced computational methods and tools to model and solve challenging problems at the intersections of scientific disciplines.
