Declare Major or Minor

Declaring a major or minor is an important step toward achieving your academic and degree goals at ºÚÁÏÍø. The College of the Arts (COTA) Academic Advising Center provides guidance and support to help students understand program requirements and successfully complete the declaration process. 
 
Before submitting your request to declare a major or minor, review the information below to learn about eligibility criteria and required steps.
 

Current and continuing undergraduate students at ºÚÁÏÍø who are interested in changing or declaring their major to one within the College of the Arts (COTA) should review the Major-Specific Declaration Requirements (MSDRs) before submitting a request.
 

Please note:

  • Most COTA majors require a minimum overall GPA of 2.5, along with additional prerequisites outlined in the MSDRs.
  • The Cinematic Arts major requires a minimum overall GPA of 2.75, in addition to other MSDR-listed prerequisites.
  • Dance and Music majors: Students must audition in order to change into any dance or music major.
Once your change of major request is submitted, a College of the Arts academic advisor will review it and reach out to you directly via your ºÚÁÏÍø student email.

Current and continuing undergraduate students at ºÚÁÏÍø who wish to declare a minor within the College of the Arts (COTA) should first explore our minors in Art, Dance, , , and Theatre Arts before submitting their request.
 

University policy requires that minors be completed alongside a bachelor’s degree and within the same anticipated graduation timeframe as the major. Before declaring a COTA minor, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a minimum 2.5 GPA (Overall, ºÚÁÏÍø, and Major)
  • Successfully complete their first semester at ºÚÁÏÍø with a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Be fully declared in a major (no pre-major standing)
  • Demonstrate the ability to complete the minor without delaying graduation
