Environmental Health And Safety

Environmental Health & Safety assists the University community in providing and maintaining a safe work environment for students, faculty, staff, contractors, and visitors. The EHS mission also encompasses responsibilities of protecting the local community and environment from potential hazards generated by University activities.

Each year, EHS conducts quantitative lead sampling of drinking water from campus drinking fountains and hydration stations.  For 2025, 30 drinking fountains and 5 hydration stations were sampled in accordance with United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) protocol.  Of the 35 samples collected, none were at or above the USEPA lead threshold for drinking water of 15 parts per billion (ppb).  The highest lead level found was less than 50% of this threshold.  A summary report may be viewed here: EHS Drinking Water Executive Summary Report

In addition, the City of Long Beach conducts annual water quality sampling. The results for 2024 (as reported in July 2025) can be viewed here:

EHS is fully committed to ensuring the health and safety of the campus community.  If you have questions, please contact EHS via BBS Service Response at 562-985-HELP.
