Finding Your Way Around an Essential Service Industry in Construction
Jay L. Jefferson ’83, MS ’08
Adjunct Instructor, CSU System, Construction Manager, Office of the Chancellor for CSU (retired)
Jay Jefferson has 35 years of construction building experience with the majority of it being in the California State University system, working both in the Chancellor’s Office and on various campuses. He has a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Engineering Management. Jay is also a former member of the Board of Directors for the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA), where he was a past recipient of the Owner Member of the year award. He currently serves as an Adjunct Faculty member at California State University, Dominguez Hills in their Construction Project Management Certificate Program; instructing students in Project Management and Construction Safety; and at California State University, Los Angeles.
Jay has presented on several occasions as a speaker / panelist on construction industry events such as CMAA seminars, Associated General Contractors (AGC) and Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA North and South seminars).
Jay has worked in multiple construction delivery methods such as CM@Risk, Progressive Design/Build and Task Order Construction Contracts (TOCAs) using Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and Lean principles such as best value selection in contracting, design/build and design/assist subcontracting, Building Information Modeling, value management, collaboration & partnering. While managing construction projects for the Chancellor’s Office Jay was a part of the project team that won an ENR Magazine award in 2015 for the Best Sports and Entertainment project in Northern California.
