Christine Whitcraft, a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Cal State Long Beach, commented on recent research using recycled glass combined with sediment to protect coastal erosion and plant growth in an article by . The glass/sediment mixture could reduce landfills while supplementing a limited amount of sediment to restore areas eroded from sea level rise. Whitcraft said the use of the recycled glass seemed to hold promise across a range of plants although more research needs to be done.
