Christine Scott-Hayward, a professor in the Department of Criminology, Criminal Justice, and Emergency Management at Cal State Long Beach, co-authored an article in the independent nonprofit news source, about the impact of bail reforms, including the reduction in the use of cash bail. Scott-Hayward wrote that their research found the reduction of cash bail can maintain public safety while also curtailing mass pretrial incarceration that overwhelmingly locks up people who are too poor to afford bail.
