Jason Whitehead

Jason Whitehead, Ph.D., J.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Political Science, the Director of the Legal Studies Program, and the campus pre-law advisor at California State University, Long Beach.

Whitehead studies legal and judicial politics, constitutional law, American politics, religion and politics, and political theory. He is the author of two books: 鈥漈he Christian Conservative Constitution: Narrating the Demise of Liberal Democracy in the Age of Trump鈥 (Palgrave Macmillan, 2026), and 鈥淛udging Judges: Values and the Rule of Law鈥 (Baylor University Press, 2014), and has published several articles on topics related to law and politics as well as religion and politics. He has given many public speeches and lectures on judicial decision making, the rule of law, and the intersection of religion and American politics. He is also a frequent guest on local television and radio, including KCRW, KNBC News, KCBS News, and KTLA News. He has been quoted in the Los Angeles Times and the San Francisco Chronicle.

Before his academic career, Whitehead served as a staff attorney for the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles and as a judicial clerk to a panel of judges on the Oregon Court of Appeals.

Whitehead holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Southern California and a J.D., cum laude, from Willamette University, College of Law.
