Many instructors report that the volume and acuity of student concerns they encounter today far exceed what they experienced even a few years ago. Situations involving significant mental health concerns, trauma, housing and food insecurity, family crises, and students in distress have become increasingly common.

This two-hour interactive training is designed to support faculty in navigating this changing landscape. Rather than focusing on basic student support skills, the training builds on faculty members' existing expertise by providing deeper insight into the factors driving increased student distress, opportunities for consultation around complex situations, and practical guidance on utilizing campus resources when concerns escalate.

The training concludes with an overview of campus assessment and intervention processes, including the roles of CARES, CAPS, CAST, and University Police. Participants will learn about de-escalation techniques, welfare check considerations, and pathways for connecting students with timely support.
