2026 Crystal Cove Coastal Walk & Tidal Pool Exploration
On Saturday, April 18, 2026, 5 METRIC scholars, 3 family and friends, and 2 faculty gathered bright and early at Crystal Cove State Park for a scenic coastal hike and community-building outing. The group met at Parking Lot #2 at 8:30am and began the morning by descending the Crystal Cove Trail to the beach, continuing south along the shoreline toward Vista Point.
Along the way, participants explored the Reef Rock tidal pools, getting an up-close look at local marine life and enjoying the natural beauty of the coastline. The group then made a relaxed stop at the iconic Crystal Cove Shake Shack for refreshments, where many enjoyed refreshments while taking in ocean views.
The return hike followed the Crystal Cove Trail back uphill, wrapping up with a group photo and a fun "best photo" challenge. The event concluded at around 11:45am..
With warming temperatures toward the end of the hike, participants noted feeling pleasantly challenged, and overall, the length and pace of the outing felt well-suited for the group. Throughout the morning, students connected with one another, engaging in conversations about future plans, academic interests, summer programs, travel (including trips to Greece), and scholarship opportunities.
This outing offers a perfect blend of outdoor exploration, peer connection, and meaningful conversation in a beautiful coastal setting.
