My Journey

During my time at ºÚÁÏÍø, I frequently encountered financial challenges that hindered my ability to focus on my studies. There were times when I often had to worry about monthly expenses while also tackling the workload from engineering class. This greatly impacted my grades since I had to work while going to school. I applied for Beach Scholarships and was awarded one; this greatly helped me financially and let me improve my grades by being able to focus on my classes.

What Helped Me Succeed

What helped me stay motivated towards my degree was the community here at ºÚÁÏÍø. This school has great communities, especially the first-year programs. During my first year, I was able to meet so many people and create a solid friend group. This friend group has stuck with me throughout my degree; we would take classes together and study together for exams. I truly believe I wouldn't have lasted as long without my support system I made here at ºÚÁÏÍø.

I would ask my upper classman peers in my major to see what classes I should take and some professor recommendations. I also would go to the advising center and ask about major classes requirements and whenever I needed help with academic holds.

Advice for Other Students

Ask questions. Ask your peers, ask your advisors, ask your professors...just don’t try to figure everything out alone. Having a support system is what will keep you on track, especially with how demanding engineering can be.

One thing I wish advisors or staff understood a little more is how challenging scheduling can be, especially for students who work, commute, or have other responsibilities. I know it’s mostly out of everyone’s control, but it still plays a big role in our experience.
