In January, the Educational Leadership Department held its 9th Annual Educational Leadership Symposium.

I was awarded a sabbatical this fall to work with school librarian educators at the University of Borås in Sweden. This university, which is located about an hour east of Gothenburg, offers the most extensive school librarian preparation in the country. I wanted to explore the school librarianship situation in Sweden first hand.

Dr. Jessica Pandya, Department Chair, Liberal Studies has received the University Achievement Award from Academic Affairs for Outstanding Faculty Impact Accomplishment in Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity.

College of Education graduate student, Jennifer Montepeque Diaz has won first place in Education at the 31st Annual ������ Student Research Competition.

CED faculty, Dr. Jolan Smith, has been awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student Research Award for her work “Lessons Learned: Collaboration with School Psychologists within a Juvenile Detention Setting” conducted while a student.

CED doctoral student Angela Rodriguez has been accepted as a Clark Scholar as part of the David L. Clark National Graduate Student Research Seminar in Educational Administration and Policy being held during the American Educational Research Association (AERA) annual meeting this spring.

Dr. Kristin Powers recently served as a scientific reviewer for the U.S. Department of Education on the Institute of Education Sciences’ Research Networks Focused on Critical Problems of Policy and Practice in Special Education grant review panel.

In the 2018-19 academic year, the College of Education awarded $362,532 in donor supported scholarship funds to 135 CED students.  Many of these students were honored and recognized, along with their donors, at the annual College of Education Scholarship Reception held last October. 

College of Education alumna, Dr. Fawzia Reza has recently published her first children’s book, Mary and her New Friends.

Dr. Cara Richards-Tutor has received the 2018 Samuel A. Kirk Award for her research article, “Review of Single Subject Research Examining the Effectiveness of Interventions for At-risk English Learners” included in Learning Disabilities Research & Practice.
