Dr. Elaine Bernal
Elaine Villanueva Bernal, Ed.D., is a lecturer in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Cal State Long Beach.
She teaches general education chemistry for non-science majors, organic chemistry for pre-health professions students, and technical communications for chemistry majors. Her research interests include professional development for STEM faculty in higher education and K–12 settings. She collaborated with the Department of Science Education to support the Science Professional Academy for K–8 teachers in the Norwalk–La Mirada School District, where she trained elementary school teachers on the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards.
She has been active in campus leadership as an academic senator and as a member of the Cal State Long Beach President’s Commission on the Status of Women. She serves as a faculty advisor to Sigma Alpha Lambda, the Pilipino American Coalition, and Kappa Psi Epsilon, and works as the vice chair of the Human Relations Commission for the City of Long Beach.
She holds an Ed.D. and an M.A. in Educational Technology and Media Leadership from Cal State Long Beach, along with an M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles.
