Hillside Village

Hillside Village is located at the southwestern part of the university and is the closest of the colleges to the central university. Hillside Village provides housing with 7 suite style buildings, each housing an average of 45-100 residents and three traditional style buildings (Los Alamitos, Los Cerritos, La Playa) each housing 210-426 residents.

Hillside A-F, I-House

Housing Type: Suite Style

Air Conditioning: Only available in the Common Room

Hillside Suites includes six two-story residence halls with a contained suite design. Each building houses an average of 45-100 students. All the buildings are co-ed with self-contained, separate locked suites by gender (men, women, or open gender by need) located across from each other. Each building has a laundry room. Hillside letter buildings (Buildings A, B, C, D, E, F, I-House) have air-conditioned common rooms. While bedrooms do not have air conditioning, each room comes with a ceiling fan. 

The Hillside buildings are served by the Hillside Service Center, located in the Hillside Commons, which offers many services including mail distribution, resident support, and the checkout of games and equipment. The Hillside Commons also provides a large study area and community kitchen which may be used by residents during its open hours.

Hillside letter buildings are home to two of our thematic communities with Pride House in Hillside B and International House in I-House.


Hillside Traditional Halls

As part of Hillside Village, our newly renovated two-three story traditional halls are set closest to campus and classrooms. Each building houses an average of 210 students. Hillside Traditional Halls include one general housing building (Los Alamitos) and one Honors building (Los Cerritos). Both buildings are air-conditioned with separate wings based on gender. Each hall has a shared kitchen area and laundry room for residents to use for their convenience on the first floor.


The Hillside buildings are served by the Hillside Service Center, a central customer service office, located in the Hillside Commons, which offers many services including mail distribution, resident support, and the checkout of games and equipment. The Hillside Commons also provides a large study area and community kitchen which may be used by residents during its open hours.

Los Alamitos and Los Cerritos* are home to two of our thematic communities with Transfer Community in Los Alamitos and the University Honors House in Los Cerritos. *Residents who do not choose a thematic community may live within these halls depending on thematic community application and placement numbers. 


Hillside La Playa

Hillside La Playa is a five-story complex (opening in August 2026) made up of three interconnected buildings, housing around 420 students. The building is air conditioned and an elevator within each building. Floors are co-ed with access to a men's restroom, women's restroom, and two open-gender, single use restrooms per floor within each building. There are 3 shared kitchens (located on the first floor of each sub-building) for La Playa residents to use as well as multiple student areas, living rooms, and common spaces throughout each floor. La Playa also has a laundry room and multipurpose room located on the first floor as well as a courtyard outdoor space. 

La Playa is served by its own desk and service center, located in the lobby of La Playa Shores, offering many services including mail distribution, resident support, and the checkout of games and equipment.
